Seoul Day 3- Moving into Maple House- SKKU ISS 2013 Dorm

Maple and Birch:
By walking: Exit Hyehwa station exit 4. Main street. You should see the main street linking the road... Walk towards the road side... You will see Baskin Robbins. Walk along the stretch of pavement. You will see Lims Chicken (pretty decent!) in green banner, continue walking you should see a shoes shop decorated in girlish pink then a stationery shop, then i think its a Woori Bank. Cross the road towards Paris Baguette Cafe. Go towards Hyundai Car Building in white (with green light at the rooftop at night). You should already pass by a Home Mart. Turn into the alley after you see Hyundai Building. You should see a food shop inside the alley and opposite the food shop is a Straw Museum. Walk along the alley (pretty dark at night... so go home with friends!!) you will see the sign Maple! its a dorm for girls. While... Birch is for guys :) Around the area there are many other dorms like Maple and Birch's... Perhaps its for the local students or for other Univ students...

By Taxi: either alight at the Hyundai Building and walk in yourself... Or just direct the uncle given the above description. You can just google map it too!

By Airport Limousine: I guess you will alight somewhere around Dunkin Donuts... Just walk into the pavement you see between Dunkin Donuts and Daiso written in Hangul (do keep a look out), walk further and you will see Olive Young across the pavement at your right... If u keep walking along the street, You will reach SKKU Gate. But before that, you will see Isaac Toast! (damn nice brekkie!!!!!!!!!) its a small shop so be alert! its in red! You will see a lane between Isaac Toast and a grilled Chicken store in Yellow banner. Walk into the lane. You will see Inside Backpackers and a nice cafe for brunch. Keep walking straight... till a little junction. By then you should be able to see Birch House. Maple House is around the area :)

Moving in day! We had the uncertainties as to how we travel to our dorm and no idea how it looks like... Thankful for the guesthouse person who helped us write in korean on a note to show the cabby where we wanna go. That guy speaks Chinese!

So... instead of subway, we took cab this time round... actually wanted to book cab into the alley but according to the guesthouse, we cant... so we lugged our luggages out and cross to the opposite side to hail a cab!

Got onto a cab and he is really nice! He helped us carry our luggages and I talked to him abit in korean while he's driving... he's really kind to say my korean is good lol cos i dont think so... but well, guess he saw my effort in trying to engage with him haha nice uncle!

We got lost in the cab around my dorm area lol suppose to go to Maple and Birch, we went to Migaon instead lol both dorms are in walkable distance! (we later walked from Migaon to Maple and vice versa quite often cos we had one friend staying in Migaon and we usually send her off before going back to dorm together... ensure her safety late at night)

This guy went round and round and found the place! He charges us at a flat rate of 5,000won from the guesthouse to dorm... cos he said he got lost is by default his fault... wha so nice one sg have or not?! thank him profusely :)

Lugged our luggage to Maple! and find Moa! (our house assistant! a VERY VERY VERY NICE LADY! <3) went up to our respective dorms... Im at third floor 302? (shucks, i kept mixing up 301 and 302 lol) and wenjing (my travel companion) in 401... And there are 2 to 3 rooms in an unit.

e.g. 301 has 3 rooms- 1 twin room, 2 single rooms. 302 has 2 rooms- 1 single, 1 twin

Very good fortune that we are allocated to the same building already! I mean across the many dorms... we are in the same building! Others not so heng pls!

and I got into the twin room... which means Ill be sharing room with others! :( the moment i know we cant swap units... i.e. we cant stay together... i wanted the single room badly! at least i can keep safe my belongings and openly calculate my spendings of the day in my room without having to worry watching eyes...

You know that uncertainty that arise again like u dont know hows your roommate will be like... u dont even know her... u dont know if she's very OCD... u dont know if u can click with her... u dont know if she will eye on your money n passport...

Anyway, I went into my 302 and I got wowed! Loved the dorm very much! it has 2 rooms! 1 open area with kitchen and 1 small laundry room and 1 bathroom!

So i went into my twin room and its like damn huge! larger than hmm Koart which my ntu friends stay in and Koart is like hotel!!! super pretty and lovely!! but heh I prefer mine! its very very cosy and huge! hahaha room is larger and more private than migaon definitely but migaon's living room is HUGE! cos it has kitchen, and common study area! larger than kingo too! If I would rank...
Maple and Birch- Koart - Kingo - Migaon
there's international house too! but Im not too sure bout that! but kingo and international house are in skku seoul compound i guess! Maple is very near too! its like 5 mins walk to school gate? To classrooms... heh u have to walk MUCH further... some even requires u to climb hill... and beware its hill. e.g. classes in Business building... thankfully wenjing and mine was in International Hall (beside 600th anni hall which has the Post office; EMS!, which hosted us for the orientation and grad, have halls to host the food festival too!) which doesnt need much climbing haha

Back to my room! So I chose the best bed and table and cupboard combi and of cos it includes some shifting of furnitures!

cut the story short... we swap rooms eventually without getting caught :) So wenjing and I= travel companion and roomie!
-
my travel adaptor CANT WORK cos its spoilt somehow =.= had to borrow with another roomie and thankfully she's really nice!
we even went to lotte mart to buy adaptor... then... the adaptor cant fit in the power point zzzzzzzzzzzz cant use either... but at least it works...so damn it! (read on the other post to find out how i got it solved!)

look at below video to get some idea of what kinda travel adaptor u should get!

pictures to Lotte Mart at Seoul Station!

took a few shots of Samsung cam sold in korea!

Pororo is cheap in Lotte Mart. Other places sell at above 18,000won or much much more than that!
I am so going to get it the next time I go Korea!

bought these!

The spicy ramen is really nice. cost about 3000won-3500won... not exactly cheap... cos in Singapore you get chicken rice for about 2.50sgd to 3sgd... and ramen is just instant noodles... BUT this is really nice! different from the non-korean ramen sold in packaging! its so bouncy and chewy! WOW!

This restaurant is somewhere along the streets of Hyehwa... the area between Baskin Robbins and Lims Chicken!
