Bangkok Travelogue: A last minute decision to the Land of Smiles!

Haohao and I are indeed super last minute. In April, we were already discussing the place to go but always can't find a good deal and settle the location to explore next. Also, Haohao couldn't find a good period to travel and clear this Annual Leave since his colleagues are mostly jetting off in May/June. After much ding dong, we only managed to confirm on this trip 2 weeks prior to departure.

We sourced for the cheap air tickets to Thailand via Thai Airways at only SGD211. Quite ok right the price!

We are quite picky at choosing the right hotel.
1) Near cafe area
2) Near station
3) Centralised
4) Comfortable look and feel
5) Reasonable pricing

After looking out for a few hotels, we settled with Modena by Fraser hotel. It is conveniently located just beside the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre MRT. 1 stop away from the BTS Asok where the Terminal 21 shopping centre is located. Our hotel is also a few MRT stops away from the cafe area! Direct train to Chatuchak as well!

We stayed from 18 May to 24 May; at a total of SGD177 per pax for 6 nights. ok lah. quite cheap le.

Transportation: highly recommend to use the Grab app to get the cars/taxi.
1) You will have input the location in advance - this saves the hassle to communicate to the Thai taxi drivers
2) The price is already indicated on the app (this excludes the expressway toll charges; which usually ranges from 25BAHT to 50BAHT each gantry)

We bought both the MRT card and BTS Card for easy access; the transportation fare for either token or card is the same. So would recommend to get the card to avoid queuing at popular tourist spot/stations having to purchase the tokens.

Day 1: Settle down at Hotel

At the Changi Airport! Flight scheduled in the afternoon.

We reached our hotel quite late at night so we decided to just rest and eat dinner in the hotel.

Day 2: Cafe Hopping!

Morning view from our unit; level 14.

Good gymming facilities. We ran on the treadmill for 45minutes before changing to other equipments.

Bathed and ready to head out!

It was raining so we decided to lunch at a nearby Thai restaurant in Thonglo. Yummy daoooo~ #kruajiangmai

Then we continued our walk to "After You" cafe. We ordered the famous Shibuya Toast and the Strawberry ice flake thing lol

Then we continued on to "The Commons". It looked really different to what I expected lol though the mall isn't fully air-conditioned, the shops are.

Our legs are jelly after walking so much in the afternoon. We headed to the platinum mall/Central World to get some souvenirs and clothes. #morewalking 😰

The Erawan Shrine; taken from the overhead bridge. This area has a lot of bridges built since I last went in 2013. Good good.

I'm really amazed by our legs' strength. We even went on further to the "Talad Neon" market. Thankfully, we went as we didn't know in advance that night markets are only open from Friday to Sunday.

Had dinner at Talad Neon + rain again.

Day 3: Terminal 21, Big C and Rod Fai Night Market

After a crazy day 2, we decided to tone down bit today. 😅

Damn nice the fries at Terminal 21!

Had dinner at the MK restaurant. Apparently, it quite a popular place for steamboat in Thailand!

Must buy the instant noodles!!

Day 4: Chatuchak and Or Tor Kor Fruit Market

To embrace the heat, we bought the wet tissue body wipes by Biore to wipe off the sweat and have that cooling effect on our skin. Just that, we could have gone further to get a portable fan. Its really ta-ma-de hot! Haohao still say the heat was ok lol

Viva (something); damn nice!

Went for a foot massage session; my masseur was alright. And as usual, I slept lol but for Haohao, his masseur perhaps applied too much strength on his calf that he had muscles ache for a few days.

Or Tor Kor is about 5 minutes walk away from Chatuchak. Its just opposite.

Yummy and fresh mango anyone? We bought 12 mangos at 850baht. The ladies helped to pack them into 2 boxes with handles to bring around.

While I was waiting for the mangoes, Haohao went around to look for cheap and good durians. Was quite good but expensive! I later told my dad and he said he would prefer not to get durians in Thailand cos not very delicious. But anyway, the mangoes were good buy.

As Or Tor Kor is located near the MRT station as well (different exit), we headed back to hotel to rest and put the stuff before going to another area.

We then went to BTS Siam with a lot of Siam shopping malls; Siam Paragon, Siam Square, Siam Center etc

Spotted the A&W store and had our dinner! But the food is so-so.
